Job Description/Duties

The University’s Digital Education Service (DES) is looking to recruit a Student Champion within each faculty to support digital education at the University of Leeds. The Student Champion will work both within their faculty and, more broadly, under the direction of the Digital Education Service staff and Student Project Coordinator.

This role is open to students who will be studying in the 2019/20 academic year. The post begins on 30 September 2019 (beginning of Semester/Term 1), and concludes on 19 June 2020 (end of Term 3).

The commitment is to work up to 40 hours in total, to be completed during the 2019/20 academic year. The student will work with the Digital Education Academic Lead (DEAL) for their faculty to plan and deliver a project which will contribute to digital education in the faculty. They will also spend some time working with the DES or other stakeholders as required, providing a student perspective in supporting the development of digital learning materials, processes or systems.

Role specification:

The Student Champion will have the following responsibilities and roles:

    • Work closely with the DEAL for their faculty (or other appointed member of faculty staff) to:
      • promote digital education (including blended learning) within the faculty
      • provide a student perspective to support staff with the production of digital learning materials to be accessed via internally and externally facing learning platforms.
    • Provide a student perspective/voice by suggesting ideas for the development of quality digital resources across the University;
      • In collaboration with the DEAL, provide ideas and input into the creation of learning resources designed to reside in Minerva – the University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) – and other externally facing learning platforms.
      • Provide feedback on courses and modules developed by the DES on Minerva, FutureLearn and other platforms.
      • Support and work closely with relevant staff and teams e.g. Minerva Support
    • Take on the position of student representative for the Faculty Digital Education Committee (or similar committee as advised). 
    • Support staff from a range of Schools and input ideas into ongoing and new projects during the period of the contract, preferably from several different Schools.
    • Attend key training sessions in order to identify potential improvements and implications for University projects.

 

 Person specification:

Essential:

  • To be registered as a University of Leeds student in the 2019/20 academic year.
  • A strong interest in digital education.
  • Experience, as a learner, of engaging with digital educational opportunities and the ability to input ideas into the development process.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise with staff across the University.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • An ability to interpret and critically assess research.
