Job Description/Duties

Job Title: Personal Assistant

Hours Per Week: 10hrs per week (2 positions available)

Hourly rate: Mon – Fri: £9.43 per hour

                        Sat & Sun: £11.74 per hour

Location: At home in LS25 and in the local community

I am a chatty and friendly young adult wheelchair user seeking PA(s) to provide support out and about in the community, including shopping trips, going for picnics in the park, and watching films at the cinema. Once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, I will be looking at booking tickets to music concerts for my PA and me.

I have a variety of interests, including pop music, the outdoors and environment, and swimming, which I would like to explore with a PA. We may spend time at home in order for me to complete my college work; the PA may directly support with this, i.e. typing up notes, or complete other tasks allowing me to work independently. 

The ideal candidate is compassionate, reliable and conscientious with a good sense of humour, they should be happy working on their own and part of a team and willing to go the extra mile. You should be friendly and approachable, sensitive, flexible and fun!

What are the duties?

  • Support to source and access interests and hobbies, i.e. visiting the local park, shopping, going swimming.
  • Engage in a range of structured activities, be flexible and willing to get involved.
  • Provide companionship and support to build independence.
  • Appropriately deal with instances of heightened sensitivity and anxiety, following a procedure for de-escalation.
  • Communicate regularly with the employer regarding the support.
  • Supporting the learning of new skills
  • Provide physical support with my manual wheelchair

 Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a 1-1 role
  • Flexibility towards planned activities
  • Strong communication skills
  • Full clean driving licence and vehicle desirable (mileage reimbursed)

Any relevant experience will be considered if the skills can be applied to this role.
