Internship Outline

PPM+ is the LTHT in-house developed Electronic Health Record (EHR) which is a key element of improving the delivery of care and supporting the trust’s ambition to be paperlite by 2020.  The students will have the opportunity to work within a development team that are delivering this EHR within the framework of an annual roadmap.  This will be a practical and hands on experience where student’s work will be promoted to everyday use by over 23k users of the platform delivering care to patients from across Leeds and Yorkshire region.

 

Project Aim, Objective and Outcomes:

  • Infrastructure support (as required)
  • Produce business requirements
  • Delivery of eFormsDevelopment of simple features within the main EHR application
  • Testing of new EHR functionality
  • Using reporting of EHR data to provide information and insight to clinicians and managers

 

Project Opportunities:

Working with EHR Development (lead Head of EHR Development)

Through practical delivery of specific work, working alongside wider members of the permanent EHR Development Team and will have developed knowledge and understanding of:

  • AGILE (Essential SaFE) software development, testing and release methodologies including Kanbans; EPICS; User Stories; Acceptance criteria etc
  • Support to Request to Change process and understanding of associated prioritisation processes
  • Requirement gathering and story composition to describe new eForms and minimum viable products including presentation at Design Sessions and Show and Tells
  • Clinical and Management/Admin stakeholder engagement around requirement elicitation and implementation of released products
  • Using the Trust eForms framework product to develop electronic forms for the EHR
  • Extending Development experience by creating simple features (reference data; tabulated views) and making simple UI changes (C#; .NET; JAVA)
  • Functional and automated test scripting and processes
  • Deployment methodologies using industry standard tools such as Azure DevOps
  • Challenges affecting the implementation and roll-out of new features across a complex organisation
  • You will have attended various key decision-making groups that support this process to gain a better understanding of wider decision making and prioritisation process for developing an EHR within a complex environment with competing priorities e.g. Development Steering Group; Digital Clinical Reference Group; Technical Design and Architecture Group

 

Working with Information and Insight (lead EHR Reporting Manager)

Through practical delivery of work, you will have developed knowledge and understanding of

  • Stakeholder engagement around reporting requirement elicitation
  • Data Extraction techniques
  • Data Transform techniques
  • Data Load techniques
  • Data analysis and presentation techniques using tools available to LTHT
  • Appreciation of the difference between Data and it’s direct use within a working environment through the production of “Information and Insight”
  • Recognition of the varied levels in which data can help clinicians and a managers deliver a clinical service

 

Required Disciplines:

  • Good written communication skills including spelling, grammar etc
  • Good team skills - being able to liaise with people over requirements and ask for help where stuck, but also able to work independently

 

Required Technical Skills:

  • Good communication with a wide range of technical and clinical stakeholders
  • Reporting and analysis skills
  • Familiarity with software tools

 

Degrees Suitable for:

  • Computing type courses
  • Students with a technical aptitude studying general courses (e.g. business)

 

Level for study:

  • First year
  • Second year
  • Third year (penultimate MEng)

Pay: £9.21/hr
