Job Description/Duties

Leeds City College are looking for a full-time technician to provide high level technical support to the curriculum areas of Motor Vehicle and aid staff to delivery effective learning programmes. Knowledge and experience of a paint and body shop environment including maintenance of tools equipment would be an advantage.

MAIN DUTIES:

1. To organise and prepare materials, resources and equipment for learning situations, including loaning out equipment and maintaining records.

2. To support teaching and learning in the area by setting up equipment and teaching materials.

3. To support staff in particular learning situations

4. To give technical assistance to learners.

5. To maintain and service and repair equipment within the area.

6. To arrange for specialist repairs to equipment.

7. To organise and store equipment and materials appropriately.

8. Monitor Health and Safety policy throughout the department, through daily weekly and monthly safety audits.

9. To assist with stock control and the ordering of supplies and services.

General

  1. Co-operate in any staff development activities required to effectively carry out the duties of the post and to participate in College staff review and development schemes.
  2. Compliance with all College policies and procedures.
  3. Comply with all legislative and regulatory requirements.
  4. To promote a positive image of the College.
  5. Any other duties commensurate with the level of the post, which may be required from time to time.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Level 2 Literacy & Numeracy or equivalent (or willing to work towards)
  • Experience of providing an effective technical support service.
  • Experience of maintaining, servicing and repairing equipment within the area.
  • Ability to work with learners at different levels.
  • To prioritise and schedule workloads.
  • Flexible approach, with ability to adapt and embrace change.
  • Flexibility around working hours

  • Committed to child protection and the promotion of a safe environment for children and young people to learn in. 

Desirable:

  • NVQ 2 or equivalent qualification/experience in engineering
  • A minimum of two years industrial experience in an Engineering environment
  • Experience of applying Health and Safety policy and practise
