Job Description/Duties

Do you have experience building coded processes in R to support data analysis and data visualisation?

We are looking for a recent graduate or current Masters student with advanced skills in data processing, analysis and visualisation using R, to join our growing team within the Digital Education Service helping to use learning analytics data to support data-driven interventions to support learners in online courses.

You will run, adapt and develop coded processes for the analysis and presentation of data. You will help draw insight from data and take care to ensure that all code is accurate and effective. You will help ensure that all learner data is managed effectively and in line with data protection regulation and best practice.

Role Description

  • Using specialist knowledge to build and adapt coded processes in R Studio to clean, analyse and visualise data;
  • Maintaining detailed technical notes and contributing to quality assurance of code outputs through peer review processes;
  • Combining data from a variety of sources to contribute to the production of recommendations in line with Service strategy;
  • Contributing to the preparation of formal evaluation reports to meet the requirements and influence the decisions of the Service management team and external partners;
  • Supporting the Engagement and Communications Team by providing data-driven insight into the effectiveness of engagement and communications activity, and producing segmented datasets based on defined parameters;
  • Contributing to the development of automated data analytics processes and outputs (such dashboards) for online course evaluation;

Person Specification

Ideally, we would like someone with;

  • Experience of processing, analysing, and interpreting large and complex datasets using R and R Studio;
  • Knowledge of data protection and privacy best practice and regulations (including GDPR);
  • Skilled in quantitative research methodologies and data visualisation methods and software (including Microsoft Excel);
  • The ability to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail with a methodological approach to work and the ability to identify errors, inconsistencies and trends in data; and experience in recording data analysis processes, including writing up technical notes;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically and creatively, with a commitment to continuous development of your skills;
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment by collaborating, supporting and valuing the contribution of colleagues;
  • An organised, flexible and proactive approach to work, with experience of working independently with minimal supervision, organising and managing own workload, and meeting competing priorities and deadlines.

You may also have:

  • Experience of working in education, preferably in Higher Education and/or online and digital education;
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science; Data Analytics; Statistics; Mathematics or other related area;
  • Experience with the development of dashboards (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Experience of analysing qualitative information (e.g. survey response data) to support quantitative evidence for the development and evaluation of effective action plans and interventions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex information, using data to tell a story, and modifying your approach to suit different audiences

We are open to applications for part-time (minimum 16 hours per week) and full-time working, with flexibility within office hours (Monday – Friday 9am - 5pm). You will be based in the Digital Education Service offices on Woodhouse Lane.
