Harewood House is one of England’s finest 18th century country houses with a magnificent collection of fine and decorative arts. It is an accredited museum and nationally designated collection, and is the family seat of the Earl and Countess of Harewood. We have beautiful, historic gardens which are of a large scale and our bird garden is a home to over 40 species of birds from around the world.
We are now looking for a Documentation Assistant who will focus on the documentation of our three collections, House, Plants and Birds. We have a new web based collections management system (MuseumPlus) and are set to launch a new collections website in December 2019. You will support the implementation of the system across the organisation and build its online presence. This will involve ensuring all records are maintained and accurate, as well as creating new ones to museum standards (Spectrum).
This is an entry-level, training post and you will be a key member of the Collections Team and will develop skills in all aspects of working in a country house, through mentoring, on the job and external training, to include assisting the Collections Care team with care of the House collections, helping with exhibitions and learning the operational side of museum work. Previous experience of museums, Accreditation and Spectrum documentation standards is not essential as it will form part of the training for the role.
