Job Description/Duties

Joblink is pleased to be acting as a recruitment agency on behalf of our employer partner, the RIS Contracts Team at the University of Leeds.

THE EMPLOYER

The Research & Innovation Service (RIS) Contracts Team supports contract management and legal processes across the University of Leeds research community. In November 2024, the team launched a new Contracts Management System and is now entering the next phase of development and integration.

What does the role involve?

As a Contract Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting the team with the implementation, administration, and documentation of the new Contracts Management System. You'll contribute to updating and revamping internal systems and web content, working closely with experienced legal and contracts professionals.

This role would suit someone with strong admin, communication, and IT skills — ideally with a background in law or someone currently studying a legal-related degree. You’ll gain valuable exposure to contract administration and the workings of a busy legal support team within a major higher education institution.

Key Duties:

  • Supporting documentation and content updates related to the new Contracts Management System

  • Assisting with the redesign and update of the RIS Contracts Intranet pages, including adding new content and system links

  • Drafting and formatting internal guidance documents and communications

  • Undertaking general administrative duties to support the wider project

  • Supporting the contract team with day-to-day administrative tasks

  • Communicating with legal professionals and stakeholders across the University

  • Working independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision

  • Managing time effectively while balancing competing priorities

You will need:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your workload independently

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel

  • Ability to pick things up quickly and work under your own initiative

  • Reliability, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude

  • Ideally, a legal background or currently studying a law-related subject

  • Experience or interest in web design, intranet maintenance, or drafting documentation is a bonus

What will you gain from this role?

  • Hands-on experience with a new system implementation in a large, professional organisation

  • Valuable exposure to legal and contract management processes

  • Opportunity to work closely with experienced legal professionals

  • A hybrid/remote working arrangement

  • Potential pathways into future roles such as Contract Manager or Junior Contract Manager within the University

Where, when and pay?

  • Location: Hybrid

  • Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

  • Start Date: w/c 5th May (likely 6th May)

  • End Date: End of July (12-week duration)

  • Pay:  University Grade 4
