The RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) is the largest conservation charity in the UK, working to reverse the climate and ecological crisis, with over 1.2 million members and managing nature reserves throughout the UK.
The RSPB manages a suit of nature reserves in the Dearne Valley between Rotherham and Barnsley which have just been awarded SSSI status (Site of Special Scientific Interest) for their wildlife. We have secured funding from the NLHF (National Lottery Heritage Fund) for a programme of events, activities and site improvements to make RSPB nature reserves even better for our wildlife and visitors. Old Moor is the best known Dearne Valley reserve with a cafe, shop and events and activities for people of all ages throughout the year. We have a large team of volunteers who bring vital skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to our sites and are key to our aim of protecting UK wildlife and connecting people to nature.
