Ofgem is the energy regulator for Great Britain, and our principal objective is to protect the interests of existing and future electricity and gas consumers.
How we work
The energy system is undergoing a period of unprecedented change. Technological innovation, new business models and decarbonisation efforts mean that the energy system of the future will be very different from the one we have today. Working alongside government and industry, Ofgem has an integral role in facilitating the transition to a smart, flexible energy system. This is an exciting and challenging time for us. We must ensure that the regulatory framework is agile and adapts to the new challenges we expect to face in the coming years, yet still preserves our core functions of protecting consumers, ensuring effective competition and promoting security of supply.
