Teach for China (TFC) was launched to tackle the serious imbalance of educational resources between urban and rural areas. Launched in 2008 as a non-profit program managed by the Lead Foundation.

The Lead Foundation is a non-profit organization registered with the Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau, April 2014. The Lead Foundation is one of the first, in Beijing, to be officially recognized as a charitable organization. Since inception, China Foundation Center has consistently awarded The Lead Foundation an FTI*[note] score of 100 each year, making it one of the most transparent foundations nationwide.

Since 2008, Teach for China has recruited, trained and placed more than 2553 teachers to work as full-time teachers in rural communities in China, lacking the sufficient educational resources. More than 2,450,864 classes have been taught in approximately 318 middle and elementary schools in Yunnan, Guangdong, Gansu, Fujian, and Guangxi, reaching over 684,091 students.
